WHAT IS DANDRUFF?

Dandruff, the while flakes that come off our scalp, is nothing but dead skin cells that get stick in our hairs. Some people have problem of excessive growth of skin cells due to some particular type of yeast infection. This yeast lives on scalp and is known as Malassezia. The extra grown skin cells die off faster than usual and start sticking together which appears us in form of white flakes that we call as Dandruff. Dandruff can affect people of all ages especially people with oily skin.


Remedies to how to reduce Dandruff


1. Coconut Oil: 


Coconut oil helps in improving hydration, reducing irritation and checks any fungal growth on the scalp. From a test tube study, it was found that cultured coconut extract lowered inflammatory markers in human skin samples. With one more experiment, in which virgin coconut oil was applied to artificial skin samples, shown similar anti-inflammatory properties.



How to use coconut oil:

  1. Apply coconut oil on the hair and scalp.
  2. Give a nice massage to your scalp so that the oil get absorbed by the scalp tissues and hair follicles.
  3. For better result, warm the oil before applying.

2. Onion:


How to use onion on hair:

  1. Take an onion and grind it in a mixer.
  2. Now take any strainer and pour the paste onto the strainer. Collect the onion juice in a bowl by pressing the paste with help of a spoon on the strainer.
  3. Mix that onion juice in olive oil and apply it on your hair and scalp.
  4. Leave this mixture for 30 minutes on your hair.
  5. After 30 minutes take off the mixture using shampoo.

3. Vitamin E oil:


 Vitamin E is known for its rich antioxidant activity that helps neutralize the free radicals that cause damage to your scalp and hair. This keeps your follicles free from damage while curbing splitting and breakage.


How to use Vitamin E oil on hair:

  1. Take coconut oil and vitamin E oil in equal ratio and mix them.
  2. Apply the mixture on your hair and scalp. Leave it for 1-2 hours.
  3. After 1-2 hours, shampoo your hair.

4. Lemon juice: 


Imbalance of pH levels on the scalp can also cause dandruff. The acidic property of lemon juice helps to maintain pH levels of the scalp, thereby keeping dandruff at bay.


How to use Lemon Juice on hair:

  1. Take coconut oil (amount: according to hair length) and one teaspoon of lemon juice and mix them.
  2. Apply the mixture on your hair and scalp. Leave it for an hour.
  3. After an hour, shampoo your hair.


5. Curd: 


Curd has the best anti microbial property. Beside fighting with dandruff problem, it can give you healthy and shiny hair.


How to use curd on hair:

  1. Take  1 cup of curd.
  2. Apply on you hair and scalp. Leave it for an hour.
  3. After an hour shampoo you hair.

6. Tea Tree oil: 


Tea tree oil has a compound named as terpinen-4-ol, which has great antimicrobial properties. Tea tree oils with high concentrations of terpinen-4-ol help to get rid of dandruff by treating the yeast infection. This in turn reduces the extra growth skin cells on the scalp.


How to use tea tree oil:

Never use tea tree oil directly to the hair. Let’s see how to use it:
  1. Before using it mix (3-4 drops for long hair) it with the regular oil that you use for your hair.
  2. Apply the mixture on your hair plus scalp and leave for 1-2 hours.
  3. After 1-2 hours shampoo your hair.


7. Neem Leaves: 


As we all know, neem has strong anti-bacterial properties. It suppress the growth of yeast on the infected scalp and controls the excessive formation of skin cells.


 How to use Neem:

  1. Take 10-15 Neem leaves. Boil these leaves in water and make a paste.
  2. Apply this paste on your hair and scalp.
  3. Leave it for half an hour.
  4. After half an hour wash it off with water.  

8. Apple Cider Vinegar:

The acidic properties of apple cider vinegar maintains the pH level of scalp and prevents the growth of yeast. Thus, reduces Dandruff.



How to Use Apple Cider Vinegar:

  1. Take equal amount of vinegar and water and mix them.
  2. Use this mixture as your shampoo.

9. Asprin: 


Aspirin has the same active ingredient (salicylic acid) as many medicated dandruff shampoos contain. Let see how can we use Asprin tablets in hair.


How to use Asprin:

  1. Take 2 tablets of Asprin and crush them.
  2. Now mix that powder in the shampoo that you use for you hair.
  3. Wet you hair and apply that mixture of shampoo and Asprin.
  4. Leave it for 2 minutes and rinse with water.
